I've used the Gold Passport on and off over the years and it's been
helpful. One of the good things is that you can get a decent discount on
the Rutter Group's CA Practice Guides (ie, Weil and Brown Civil Procedure
Before Trial or Civil Trials and Evidence). [now Thomson Reuters]
Are you a member of LACBA and CAALA yet? They both have some good
programs. CAALA has a really good listserv, document bank and their
members *really* help each other out. They also have a lot of webinars and
on demand programs that you can access as a member. LACBA has some decent
programs throughout the year and it also has a good trial advocacy program
called TAP. Several times a year the TAP program has some good classes.
Haven't used LBTN, but it's probably an alternative to the CA Practice
Guides or CEB's CA Trial Practice.
Sincerely,

As I continue to transition to almost exclusively student loan law, I
find that much of my practice involves the defense of civil actions
brought by private student loan companies. And though I've had some
rousing success to date, I'm always looking to learn more of what I
don't know.
To that end, I'm considering the Gold CLE Passport from CEB, largely
for the civil litigation programs. Are these programs truly valuable,
or just a bunch of talking heads? I'm looking for nuts-and-bolts
stuff.
I've also seen "Litigation By The Numbers" by Julie Goren. Not sure if
anyone knows about that book, but if so then I'm curious as to
reviews.
Thanks in advance.
