As to the web address, Dennis secured cdcbaa.com and I secured
cdcbaa.org. Neither has been used, but both are available for our
group's use. And, although a tongue twister, nevertheless, it is now
recognized as our unique name!

I think its more important that the initials accurately descibe who
we are--and CDCBAA is accurate for "Central District Consumer
Bankruptcy Attorneys Association"-- than that the name/initials are
short. KPMarch

Another one:

bklawyers.org

Kind of like 800-DENTIST, except for lawyers. Lawyers that do bankruptcy.

Peter:
a consistent name across the web, the list serve, etc., may be more useful and easier to remember. If we change the name, we should change the list-serve. In five years no one will be able to remember cdcbaa if it is only used for the list-serve. Once we change the name, we will just be posting replies to new members reminding them to search the old list too (this is not the end of the world, but any new name should be checked to make sure it is available on yahoo, if we want to continue the list-serve). Each member will stop receiving emails from the list-serve if we change the name, unless and until, each member joins the new list-serve. This can be done with one massive invite to the new list serve, which I can accomplish, but there will surely be some disruption, as emails will stop until each member individually accepts the invite to join the new list.

Wouldn't using CDCBAA with a DBA for the new name resolve this concern?
We should resist a positive change for the future; the current name has served us well, but it is a tongue twister and is hard to remember.

As Dennis indicated, we selected the name because we wanted to find a URL
which was available. Despite its length (or perhaps because of the length),
the name accurately describes who we are and what we do. While the full
name is a mouthful and has been the butt of some good natured teasing, it
has worked. In fact, in some respects the name has increased awareness of
our existence and avoided our being "just another bar association".

CDCBAA was picked because it was an available web address. We tried
a lot of available combinations. By the time the CDCBAA was formed,
three and four letter web addresses were all registered to others.
I did the searches for the initials myself, after various names were
proposed by 2004 board members. Since three and four letter names
were taken on the web, we trid to find a five or six letter address.
We are now using an amalgamation of addresses, the yahoo list serve
uses cdcbaa, and our own web page was set up at yet another address.
cba is not available on yahoo.
cbattorneys is available as a yahoo group and a web address. Keep in
mind that is 11 letters and people will, over many years, waste a lot
of work hours typing the extra letters.
If we change the initials, it is unlikely I will be able to transfer
the posts from the cdcbaa group to another group, so we will lose
our ability to search through the years of posts.
We anticipated the jokes about the alphabet soup we created with
CDCBAA. It hasn't hurt us, and would create lot of logistical
problems to change.
