In the irs lingo, an extension extends the day first
due. There is no last day due. But, Mark's
qualification makes its point.

Have to correct Dennis a bit. It's 3 years from the date the returns were
LAST due to be filed. This includes extensions so that, for example, if
they are not filed by April 15 of the following year, then the 3 year period
starts running from October 15 of the year subsequent to the tax year in
question.

Client is 70 years old. Today he received a notice from the IRS (dated
February 9, 2008) that he owes $2722.24 for 2001 and $2784.91 for 2002.
Are thhose tax debts dischargeable since they are 4 years post filing
the tax returns? Does anyone know the statute of limitations on tax
debts when the return was filed? 6-7 years post filing date seems to
be a bit unreasonable.
