The Revenue officer told the client not to hire an attorney at what point? During an offer and compromise, during an audit? While they were working out an installment agreement?

Dear Desiree,
Respond by sending a copy of the Disclosure of Compensation of Attorney (after all, it is in the public record) and say that anything else pertaining to your relationship with your client is covered by the attorney-client privilege and the duty of confidentiality.
The IRS agents I have dealt with have generally been pleasant and reasonable, so I think you may be dealing with an anomalous jerk (that's a technical tax term).

I have filed a Chapter 7 for client which included significant IRS debt
going back to tax year 2001. The client was told not to hire an attorney by
the revenue agent involved.
I just received an IRS Summons ordering me to turn over information relating
to fees paid to me, the purpose of the payment, how the payment was made and
nature of the legal services for which fees were paid.
Is this common, or have I got an overly aggressive revenue agent here?
I'd appreciate your thoughts.
