Gotta love debt forgiveness.....do we have any word whether the Mortgage
Debt Relief Act will be continuing into 2013?

Right, they get credit towards compliance on the settlement, and forgive
2nds that are avoided via LAMs anyways.

They will be sending a 1099 forgiveness of debt. If they don't then the REMIC's will be liable to the IRS for all of the violations of the Tax Exempt status of the REMICS. I don't see any other way for wall street to avoid paying the taxes they owe.
