I didn't see any info on the forums regarding this CLE. One of my
favoritest people is going to be presenting so I think it's going to be
great!

Dear All:****
** **
On Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 12 noon at the office of the San Fernando
Valley Bar Association, a distinguished panel will present a one hour
presentation on taxes and bankruptcy. The speakers will include an always
lively David Tilem and certified public accountant Peter Stephan. David
has had a distinguished bankruptcy practice for close to 30 years, has been
through many of the big bankruptcy cases in the Central District while at
the same time he has continued to maintain an active consumer practice. He
is a student of bankruptcies so his insights on tax/bankruptcy issues
should be very good. Peter Stephens CPA maintains an extensive practice
representing taxpayers before the IRS and other tax agencies and he will
have a lot of useful, practical comments and pointers about what you can
expect when you represent taxpayers in tax disputes.****

The program should be lively with feedback from attending attorneys. Even
better, the materials are very good, user friendly and have good practical
information. ****

We are having a bankruptcy tax program for two reasons. First, this
intersection seems to create more mistakes and malpractice by bankruptcy
attorneys than any other legal intersection bankruptcy attorneys will
encounter. The rules are technical and the case law continues to evolve
with one recent appellate opinion holding that a tax payer could not
discharge income taxes solely because the return was filed late, hence not
in accordance with IRS regulations. Secondly, often times, bankruptcy
attorneys will attempt to resolve the tax disputes short of a bankruptcy
filing. Peter Stephens comments will provide good commentary and
practical ideas to fill knowledge voids and to tell you what you can and
cannot accomplish.****

The pricing for the program is great. The price, which includes lunch, is
about of the charge the L.A. Bankruptcy Forum or the Financial Lawyers
will charge. The price for this program is far less than those prices
charged by LACBA or the Beverly Hills Bar.****

Oh, if you cannot attend but someone else at your firm can, please pass
this email on to that person!****
