Dear Senator Boxer:
Congress, i.e. the House, is indeed moving in that direction, but the Senate
has bottled up S 61 in committee where it now appears to have an uncertain
fate. S61, even in its currently watered down form, will help tens or
hundreds of thousands keep their homes at no cost to taxpayers. Having the
Senate sit on its collective hands, on the other hand, is what the American
people have come to expect.
Make no mistake about it, the Democrat Party has no more excuses. You
control the White House, you control the House of Representatives and you
control the Senate. Instead of spending us all into oblivion, S61 is a
chance to really help people at the expense of some of those who contributed
to the problem rather than taxpayers.
While the banks are not completely at fault for the housing crisis, they
must share the blame by giving up any pretext of checking the financial
credentials of home loan customers. They just handed out money like candy
and then sold the loans to the next co-conspirator. Now when the chickens
come home, they refuse to accept anything other than yet another handout
under the TARP program.
