Dear cdcbaa members:
The Northern District of CA has been working with a charitable organization
to develop no-cost, pre-filing Briefing free, gratis, no charge. This pilot
program has been available only in the N.D.CA - until now. They are rolling
the program out to all of the CA districts and it is now available to your
clients.
Here's what I know. The person who contacted me is a highly regarded
corporate bankruptcy attorney from the N.D.CA. The group formed to develop
this program includes San Jose Bankruptcy Judge Grube, recently retired, and
another Judge, I believe a retired State Court Judge, whose name was not
known to me.
The actual services are sponsored by a charitable organization. The service
is approved by the EOUST and is almost completely electronic, i.e. very
little human time. They have at least one full time counselor who actually
issues the required certificates and who resolves any problems which may
arise.
The web address for the site is: www.consumerbankruptcycounseling.info. I
have not seen the site myself, but have reviewed various web-pages which
were reproduced in the announcement which I received. A similar
announcement was sent to all certified bankruptcy specialists in CA so many
of you have already seen or heard about this site.
Remember that this service is FREE, GRATIS, NO CHARGE to you or your client.
I have inquired whether this extends only to the pre-filing briefing or to
the post-filing class as well. I will report on that when I have an answer.
