I got the same package from the same group you did. It looks like it was
sent out to all the specialists in BK statewide. I have two comments.
First, the non-profit appears to be completely funded by interests aligned
with the creditor's bar and banking interests. This does not appear on its
face to be a problem as I logged into the web site and it appears to be very
professionally done. I did note that there were links to credit counseling
agencies as an alternative to BK, which could be used by our clients to
divert them away from us. In fairness, the site also has links to refer
clients to lawyers who are specialized, which is good for you and me, but
maybe not what many in our group who have not gotten that specialty yet
would prefer.
Second, I note that the turn around for the certificate is 3-5 days. I
wonder if that is intentional to get potential debtors to reconsider.
I like free, but the hair on the back of my neck is raised, and I'll
probably not send my clients there. If anyone has a pal in Nor Cal that is
a BK consumer debtor's counsel, we should get some feedback from them on
this service.
