For more certainty, do a motion to reject so that the creditor will be on
notice to file its resulting proof of claim, if any, which will make it
easier to draft a plan.

Dear Listamates,
In ch11, when a debtor wants to reject executory contract (eg, franchise agreement), what are the proper procedures in our district?...file a motion to reject or include the rejection in confirmed plan without filing a motion? The debtor wants to reject asap, if possible.

Rejection of a contract may be brought by motion in a Chapter 11
(see 365(d)(2)) at any time prior to confirmation of the Plan. I'm
pretty sure it can also be rejected as part of the plan, although
that would presumably take longer..
Also, although you didn't ask, beware of unexpired leases of
nonresidential real property under 365(d)(4)--they are automatically
rejected 120 days after the order for relief unless otherwise assumed.
