Well, there goes some more rewiring in my brain. Thanks for setting me
straight.
Based on this, Id advise rogerclim to not kick up any dust and not ask
about the student loans. I see a dormant vs. extinct distinction here,
kind of like a volcano. These debts are dormant, not extinct.

No activity in more than 20 years? I have to believe that even for student
loans, there is a statute of limitations on collecting the debt. Even the
IRS cant collect after 10 years.

Does anyone have any idea as to what might have happened here? Is it advisable to leave well enough alone, or in the interest of thoroughness should I start to kick up some dust by digging around?
