The Assistant US Trustee announced at a recent meeting that a SSN was not
required to file bankruptcy. However, if the US Trustee or the panel
trustee believes criminal acts occurred, such as use of the SSN of another
person, they are required to make a referral to the US Attorney. The lack
of documentation may prompt investigation of immigration status.
