Yes it is. But I believe that unless the trustee excuses you, you should be gracious enough to appear and personally inform the trustee of the latest situation.

I agree with the need to communicate the situation with the trustee's office, but is it not still the general policy for Chapter 7 trustees to continue the initial 341(a) meeting if the debtor does not attend?

Call trustee's office and explain. Send FOLLOW UP letter confirming call. Most trustees are accommodating for situations like this.

Subject: [cdcbaa] Requesting continuance of 341/nonresponsive trustee
I filed a case for joint debtors, H&W, and the 341 is this Thursday. On Sunday morning the wife emailed me and said her husband was admitted to the hospital after a heart attack Sunday morning. I faxed a letter to the trustee's office yesterday and left a couple voice mails. I left another voice mail this morning. No response. On THursday should I go to the 341 myself and explain, or go with the wife? H is having surgery today and won't be discharged by Thursday, and, obviously, the wife would rather not deal with the 341 meeting right now. What should I do?
Thanks.
