PLEASE HELP PUT A HUMAN FACE ON THE FORECLOSURE CRISIS
As early as tomorrow night (Wednesday, 2/27), our friends in the Senate will
begin debating S. 2636 and the Title IV bankruptcy provision. They want to
have at least one example from every single state of a homeowner who would
be able to save their home from foreclosure if Title IV (the mortgage
modification provision) is adopted. These are just profiles that will be
used in speeches on the floor. You don't have to use their name and no one
has to speak out publicly.
We need each State Chair to either identify a client for that state's
homeowner profile, or to find a member in the state would could submit such
a client profile.
We just need one paragraph that includes:
* town/city and state of the person/family
* how they got into their situation (loan with a reset that couldn't
be refinanced, etc.)
* what steps they have taken to try and get a modification from the
lender.
ALL WE NEED IS ONE EXAMPLE FOR EACH STATE BY 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Can you
help?
Here is a sample of what I need one for each state by 5 p.m. on
Wednesday.
"Mr. and Mrs. T, from Ashburn, VA refinanced their home to help pay for
some sorely needed home repairs. Though they would have qualified for a
conventional prime loan, they were persuaded to get an adjustable rate
mortgage that would reset in two years. They were told they could refinance
before the interest rate would reset. Shortly before the reset date, the Ts
decided to seek refinancing. What they found was that due to declining real
estate prices, the house they had a $325,000 mortgage on was worth only
$275,000. The refinancing was not successful and the interest rate reset,
which increased their mortgage payments by $350 each month. They struggled
to meet the monthly payments and fell behind. They tried calling their
lender to see if they could get a lower interest rate (something closer to
the original rate) but, after months of getting the run around, ultimately
were unsuccessful. Their house is now scheduled for foreclosure."
