Pro Bono cases for Public Counsel

Greetings Fellow Members!
I am the Pro Bono Chair for the CDCBAA. We are seeking your
continued involvement by being able to represent a debtor in a pro
bono ch7 case through Public Counsel at the most, once or twice a
year. I would like to know 1) who already has volunteered directly
with Public Counsel, 2) what firms offer 2nd language assistance and
3) who can offer his or her time for this very important program. The
goal, as discussed with membership, is for each member to handle at
the most one or two cases a year.
This is a program that is greatly supported by the Chief
Judge, Judge Zurzolo. Through Public Counsel, each firm/attorney
would receive a fully prepared interview packet and the attorney is
covered under the Public Counsel's liability insurance. The packet
will include all bills, tax returns and paystubs. In addition, so long
as the petition is very visibly listed that this is a Public Counsel
Pro bono case, there are various appearance attorneys that are
available to appear at the 341(a) meeting of creditors for a reduced
rate of $50. The client can agree to appear on his or her own without
hiring an appearance attorney. The goal is to have your involvement as
the attorney of record with the least amount of time committment
possible.
If the majority of CDCBAA offers a few hours per year then
we can easily handle all or the vast majority of Public Counsel cases.
Please send an email to me directly at justinharelik@gmail.com.
Thank you for any assistance you are willing to provide,
Justin Harelik
