Are 401k payroll deductions allowed for a Chap. 7 debtor?

Is it still acceptable in a Chapter 7 for the debtor to have 401k
retirement deductions from his paycheck - as long as the amount being
deducted is not too high? Recently, at a 341(a) hearing the trustee
was asking the debtor whether the retirement deductions were
mandatory or voluntary. Has anything changed?
Thanks,
Margaret Hew
