SSN Redacting - When did it first become a requirement?

Yes, the correct date is 10/17/05 re public notice 05-018. Thank you Eric!
Fortunately, my client's issue arose before that date and all subsequent documents were properly redacted.
Reopening a case to redact information doesn't appear to be much fun.

I'm not sure that the FRBP was the first shoe that dropped. SSN redacting applies in all federal courts and compliance was ordered at different times. For instance, one court where a social security number would obviously be relevant is the United States Tax Court which if I recall correctly conformed to redaction after the FRBP but I think the FRCP was before. Anyway, read the redaction rules before filing in any federal court. In some courts the consequences of failing to redact are swift and terminal.
