I just got a call from a client with a Countrywide mortgage. Not only is he
not getting mortgage statements anymore, but Countrywide is now refusing to
provide a 1099. Instead, his call was directed to a recording advising him
that if he did not get a 1099 it was because he is in bankruptcy and to call
his bankruptcy attorney.
Has anyone else seen this?
Does it violate the IRC not to send the 1099?
If it violates the IRC, is the violation actionable?
