I too agree with Larry. It would help a lot of clients.

How about student loans being fully dischargeable after 7 years?

FYI....I just got off the phone with an aid from Congressman Anson Clark's office (in Detroit) soliciting my opinions on what kind of changes need to be made statutorily (or otherwise) to make it easier to discharge student loans and provide more certainty to the process.
I gave her my input for about 20 minutes, but referred her to NACBA/NCLC to get more specifics and recommendations. If we, as a group, have anything specific to add, I would suggest contacting our NACBA chair (whom I think is still David Tilem) and providing said input.
I mentioned a few things like allowing the proceeding to be done by motion rather than adversary to make it more affordable for the debtor/client, and also defining what undue hardship is in the code so it's not left so much up to the judiciary, etc.

It would be nice if any new law would allow us to separately classify student loans in chapter 13 and/or allow us to pay them directly.

Yes, I actually referred her to that article and she is reading it
as we speak. But she's open to input from others as well.

I actually mentioned reverting to the original 5 years on that, with
some specificity on when the time periods run from (remember the old
language "in repayment status"...).
Anyway, they want to send this to their legal drafters sometime this
week. I know it's not a lot of time, but if you want to give me the
group's input on specifics, and any specific language, I will
forward it to her.
