Mark:
I hate to break it to you, but everyone in this group is from CA. Collier's 15th has a volume which lists the exemptions State by State. Perhaps your suggestion to create an information exchange should go to NACBA.

One of the lovely new provisions, 522(b)(3) now states that exemption laws to be taken must be from the State where the debtor(s) resided within the 2 years prior to filing. Thus, if a debtor moved to your state's jurisdiction within the 2 years prior to filing, with a few exceptions, you would need to use the OTHER state's exemptions. Venue rules have not changed, so said debtor(s) might have to file in your jurisdiction, with another state's exemptions. Holy cow! Talk about a malpractice nightmare. Consider this when you start advising clients about what will or won't be exempt!
We ought to put together a list of attorneys from each State so we can use each other for exemption analysis purposes. I'm in California. Have a nice day.
