Escheat to the State

I'm holding funds in trust for a client that I just found out has died.
The case was long closed and he had never cashed the deposit return I
sent. I've left messages at the State Bar and the State Controller's
office. Does anyone have experience on how to escheat these funds to the
state (if that is what needs to be done)? I've read that funds go to the
state whenever there is no contact with a client for three (3) years.
Thank you,
