Eastern District of CA - special appearances
Just a heads-up -
New Local Rules take effect May 1st in Eastern District. LR 2017-1, in
particular, more or less eliminates "special appearances" by putting a
greater burden and imposes liability risk on anyone who appears on a case.
While it's not clear how onerously these will be implemented by the court,
some "appearance attorneys" in Eastern District are ceasing to appear for
anyone but their own cases.
Pro tip: if you have a relationship with someone in EDCA, you may want to
check with him or her to ensure they're still available to cover your cases
after May 1.
