Mark: That is a helpful site as a starting point; thanks for sharing. I wish it had an answer for Arizona.
I've tried to research this issue including searching Arizona statutes, but can't find a statute or case that specifically applies to AZ homestead exemptions in a BK case such as this,so I was hoping that our colleagues who are more familiar with AZ law could point me in the right direction.

I'm rushing out the door to meetings, but take a look at this site:

It looks like Arizona law is "unknown" on this issue as to whether extraterritoriality would apply

I am receiving conflicting information on the following situation so I could use the Listserv's help: I havepotential clients who moved from AZ to CA in March 2011; they have a small farm worth about $80k in CA.Their AZ house was foreclosed inJuly 2012. The couple was told by an AZ attorney that they have to file BK in CA within 2 years in order to keep the $150k AZ exemption, and the March '13 date is fast approaching.
A colleague had advised me that AZ exemptions are not extra-territorial, so the clients can't claim those, but need to wait the full 2 years plus 180 days to file in CA, otherwise they will be required to use the federal exemptions which won't cover the real property.
Any help with this Arizona vs. California waiting period and exemptions would be appreciated.
