Do I need substitution of attorney to reopen closed case and file a discharge violation OSC motion?

I'm filing a discharge violation motion tomorrow and was wondering if I need to hunt down the original attorney of record and beg them to sign a substitution of attorney in order to represent my client. The case was originally filed in 2006.
