SB 308 Update
I am writing to let you know that we fell just a few votes shy of the 41 we
needed to get SB 308 passed. There is one more opportunity to bring the
bill up for a vote. The bill sponsor, Senator Wieckowski, and his team are
working to get more information on all the abstentions so they can
determine next steps. I will be back in touch as soon as I have more
information. Thank you for all you have done to get us this far in the
process. Keep the calls, letters, and social media going strong! It makes
a difference.

*This just in:*
308 up
for a vote today. It has nothing to do with our chance for success. It is
more about members wanting to catch planes to get back to the district and
the desire for a short Floor Session. We are set to go Monday at 1:00.
The good news is that there is still time to contact your Assemblymember
and push for their vote.

*To All Members:*
In the past two weeks, I have met with the offices of seven members of the
California Assembly and have two more to go this week.
We anticipate the Vote on SB 308 is coming in late MAY or the first week of
June (3-4 weeks from now)!!!
This is the very LAST VOTE before the Bill goes to the Governor. I have
attached the list of organizations that are supporting SB 308. This
impressive list has grown dramatically over the past few months and that is
due, in large part, the efforts of our lobbyists. We need them now more
than ever. The opposition to SB 308 is mobilizing as it has been
described to me in the District meetings. We need to keep the momentum
moving forward as we approach the final vote. Assured passage is not
assured, not without paid lobbyists, boots on the ground, each and every
day up in Sacramento. NACBA is still short on the funding goal for those
lobbyists.
*Thanks very much to those who have already paid SOMETHING towards this
cause. *
We MUST HAVE additional donations to get the matching portion threshold.
*EVERYONE ON THIS LIST SHOULD CONTRIBUTE* *SOMETHING*. Even if it is 'only'
a DOLLAR. Every gosh darn little bit helps, and we are just so darned close.
Here's payment instructions:
Donors who wish to contribute by credit card can do so by clicking through
to the NACBA website portal for this as follows:
www.NACBA.org
Events
Bankruptcy Webinars
NACBA Store
Online Store/Donate to NACBA
Save California Homes
Donors who wish to write checks should make them payable to NACBA, and mail
them to:
NACBA Admin
5174 McGinnis Ferry Road, Suite 205
Alpharetta, GA 30005.
Also, donors should put "Save California Homes" on the check memo line.
Thank you all!!!

I thought that it was going to be $300,000 across the board. What happened?

Erik - I understand that the bill as now proposed increases homestead
exemption available to older/disabled debtors to $300,000. Do you happen to
know if the general homestead would increase and by how much if this bill
were to pass in its current form?

The homestead would be
$100k, $150k and $300k
Instead of the current $75k, $100k and $175k
The bill would be effective 1/1/16

It just passed the Appropriations committee. Will be voted on by the full
Senate on 9/1/15. Stand by for an email from NACBA. We need 41 votes from
the Assembly. This is our last big hurdle so we will need all hands on
deck.
