I had a client who had to leave for Portugal for a job and it would have
cost $3,000 to come back. We were permitted to conduct the 341A through
interrogatories. It took close to 6 months to complete them and to get the
American consulate to be involved in the process. It was not worth the
trouble.

You use the word "need" where "desire" may be more appropriate. I'll defer
to former panel trustee Dennis on this, but my own experience is that being
"unavailable" to appear at 341a is a pretty high bar. A trustee/court may
not be entirely sympathetic to a debtor who voluntarily chose to file a
petition and then move away, and subsequently claim to be a victim of the
very foreseeable inconvenience.

I tell these debtors to come back for the 341a. If impossible discuss what the 7 trustee will accept as testimony.
