There was a meeting today of the Los Angeles County Bar Association -
Bankruptcy Committee. Since our normal representative, Keith, was unable to
attend, I thought I would provide you with the highlights.
1. Judges AA and VK are moving to SFV
2. Judge PC is moving from Riv to LA
3. There are a total of 5 judicial positions which will be opening up in
the next year:
4 sitting in Riv - 1 vacancy to be filled
4 sitting in SA - 2 vacancies to be filled with 1.5 to be hearing ONLY
Riv cases.
2 vacancies in LA to be filled.
4. Chapter 7 trustees are now assigned in groups of 5 per week. This is
creating backlogs so anticipate that there will be 6 trustees receiving
cases each week. It is hoped that this will ease the 4:30 p.m. backlog
5. Chapter 7 trustees continue to remind us to call a day or two before
going to a 4:30 meeting of creditors - your cases may be rescheduled.
6. If you are interested in serving on the Bankruptcy Committee of the Los
Angeles County Bar Association, please send an email to Chairman
B.Holman@MPGLaw.com. Brian selects the committee members for a 2 year term.
The Committee meets about 8 times/year.
7. Filings continue to skyrocket at a record setting pace. The currently
projected annual total for 2010 is over 140,000 with the prior record of
under 125,000 filings. Filings are particularly high in Riv.
8. Pro se Chapter 13 filings continue to be at the 50% level.
Hope this is useful to someone.
