Copyright valuation
I have been reviewing a potential case where the client owns copyrights on
his own original works. He believes that these copyrights are the
foundation of his business, which is not doing very well. He values the
copyrights at several hundred thousand dollars. I suggested that he obtain
an independent valuation. I also believe that the value of the copyrights
is enhanced by his business model, marketing materials etc and that taken
alone the value is much less.
Client believes that the "big houses" will jump at the chance to buy his
intellectual property which would put him out of business. He also has been
told by someone that the trustees publish a list of bankruptcy estate
property looking for bidders, therefore the "big houses" will swoop in etc.
Can someone suggest a good source to obtain a fair and practical appraisal
of these music copyrights?
