Vicky,
Maybe the ticket will be discharged. I assumed that your clients ticket was
in california. A number of years ago, I had a client that discharged
approximately $8000.00 in parking tickets from his former hometown of
Chicago, IL. I have no idea why parking tickets in Chicago are discharged
and tickets in Los Angeles are not.

I've had this come up about 10 times in the last 10 years. I can remember
getting two letters from the LA City parking enforcement office explaining
the the ticket was not dischargeable. I can't recall ever getting such a
letter from a collection agency collecting on behalf of the city. It's
probably in client's best interest to pay the tickets because when they try
to register their automobile with the DMV, they will be hit with having to
pay the ticket plus all penalties. This, of course, comes to a complete
shock to the client who usually just barely scrapped up enough money to pay
the registration. Again, my personal advice is have clients pay all
tickets/fines.
P.S. I hope someone proves me wrong!

Traffic/parking tickets probably automatically nondischargeable under
523(a)(7).
Again, my personal advice is have clients pay all

if a city has sold a traffic ticket fine to a collection agency,
can the collection agency except the discharge under sec. 523?
